Poster Terms
Effective October 23, 2026. Version 2026-10-23.
These terms apply whenever you post an opportunity on Tethrd: a job, internship, part-time work, internal referral or shadowing. They add to the Member Terms. In short: you and the employer are responsible for the opportunity, and Tethrd is not. The post must be real, accurate and lawful. Anything open to members under 18 must follow child labor law, and a parent is involved at every step.
1. Who these terms cover
These terms are between you and NovaHawk Labs LLC, Series Tethrd, which runs Tethrd ("Tethrd", "we", "us"), 1122 Colorado St, Unit 1410, Austin, TX 78701. They add to the Member Terms. If the two conflict about posting, these terms control. You accept them once, before your first post, and they apply to every post you make and every edit.
If you post for an employer (your company, your club, a nonprofit or a public agency), you confirm that the employer has authorized you to post the opportunity and to accept these terms on its behalf. The employer is then bound by these terms too, and "you" means both you and the employer.
If you post an internal referral, you post for yourself. You are offering to refer people to your employer's normal hiring process, not hiring on its behalf. These terms bind you, not the employer.
If you post for an employer without its authority, you are personally responsible for everything these terms ask of the employer.
2. What Tethrd is and is not
Tethrd is a private network where members of a community can see and respond to opportunities that other members post. Tethrd is not an employer, a joint employer, an employment agency, a staffing firm or a recruiter. It is not a party to any arrangement between you and anyone who responds. We do not procure, refer, place, screen, rank or recommend anyone. We do not check employers, posts, pay, workplaces, supervisors or applicants.
Tethrd charges no fee to anyone who posts or responds. We receive nothing from you, an employer or an applicant for a referral, placement or hire.
You decide who to contact, interview, hire, pay and supervise, and you are responsible for those decisions.
3. Your post must be real and accurate
Post only an opportunity that exists and that you or the employer intend to fill. A future start date is fine if you state it. Describe the opportunity truthfully: title, employer, employer kind, location, length, pay, hours, setting, duties and minimum age. If something material changes, update the post. Close it when it is filled or withdrawn.
If the workplace is affected by a strike or lockout, say so in the post.
Do not use a post for anything other than the opportunity it describes. That rules out sales pitches, multilevel marketing, requests for investment, and unpaid work described as training.
4. Pay
Every paid post must state the pay.
If the work will be done at least partly in New York, or the role reports to a supervisor or office in New York, state the pay as an amount or a good-faith minimum and maximum, hourly or yearly. Include the job description if one exists. A role paid only on commission must say so.
If the employer does business, hires or takes applications in New Jersey, state the hourly wage or salary, or a range. Also give a general description of the benefits and other pay the role is eligible for.
Other places may have their own rules, and you are responsible for following them.
Pay at least the minimum wage and overtime that apply. Follow the rules on when and how wages are paid, pay statements and records. Job, Internship and Part-time posts on Tethrd are always paid.
5. Unpaid posts: shadowing and referrals only
Only Shadowing and Internal referral posts may be unpaid. Internships on Tethrd are paid. Under federal, New Jersey and New York wage law, a person who does productive work for a business is usually an employee who must be paid, whatever the post calls them.
Shadowing is a short visit to watch someone work. The person shadowing does no productive work. That means no tasks for customers or members, no filing, no cleaning, no errands, no deliveries and no operating equipment. There is no pay and no promise of a job. Shadowing happens in a public setting or with a second adult present. If the person shadowing is under 18, tell the parent the date, time, place and the adults who will be there, in the Tethrd thread, before the visit.
An internal referral is an offer to put someone forward through the employer's normal hiring process. It is not an offer of employment. Do not promise a job, and do not ask for anything in return for a referral.
6. Minimum ages for members under 18
You can open a post to members from age 13 (Shadowing only), from 14 (Job, Internship, Part-time and Internal referral), from 16, or only to members 18 and over. Choose the lowest age that the law and the work allow, not the lowest age the form offers. Federal law, the law of the state where the work happens, and any local law can each set a minimum age, and the strictest one that applies controls.
In general, no one under 14 may be employed. Work by 14 and 15 year olds is limited to the occupations and hours that the law allows. 16 and 17 year olds may not work in hazardous occupations. If the work would be closed to some ages, set the minimum age above them.
7. Work closed to everyone under 18
Do not open a post to members under 18 if the work includes any of the following:
Driving a car, truck or other motor vehicle on public roads, or riding on one as a helper. A narrow federal exception lets some 17 year olds drive occasionally, and New York bars minors of any age from working as helpers on motor vehicles.
Operating, riding on or helping with forklifts, cranes, hoists, travel lifts, boat lifts, freight elevators or other power-driven hoisting equipment.
Power-driven woodworking machines, circular saws, band saws, chain saws, reciprocating saws, wood chippers, abrasive cutting discs, grinding, polishing or buffing machines, meat slicers, bakery machines, balers and compactors.
Roofing or work on or near a roof, excavation, demolition, wrecking, and construction of any kind. In New Jersey, construction includes building, repairing or renovating boats, ships, docks and wharves, and any work within 30 feet of that work.
Cleaning, oiling or adjusting machinery while it is moving.
Handling explosives, highly flammable substances (in New Jersey this includes fueling, except gasoline at a service station pump), pesticides, or corrosive or toxic chemicals.
In New Jersey: preparing, selling or serving alcohol; working at a bar service area, including a pool bar; or working anywhere alcohol is sold for drinking on site, unless a specific exception applies. The exceptions include 16 and 17 year olds working in a restaurant, and golf caddies and pool attendants from age 14.
This is not a complete list. Federal, state and local law can close other work to minors, and you are responsible for checking the work you post.
8. Extra limits for 14 and 15 year olds
If the minimum age is 14, the work must also be allowed for 14 and 15 year olds. Federal rules list the occupations they may do, and work not on that list is not allowed.
14 and 15 year olds may not operate power-driven machinery. In New Jersey that means any power-driven machinery at all. Federally it includes lawn mowers, golf carts, all-terrain vehicles, trimmers, weed eaters, edgers and food slicers. They may not use ladders or scaffolds. They may not work in transporting people or goods by road or water, which includes running a launch or working as boat crew. They may not work in boiler or engine rooms or do maintenance or repair. They may not cook or bake, except the limited cooking that federal rules allow. They may not load or unload vehicles, do construction, sell door to door or on the street, or work in a factory. In New York they may not paint or clean the outside of a building or structure.
A 15 year old may work as a lifeguard only at a traditional swimming pool or water park, and only with a current lifeguard certification. Lifeguarding on open water (beaches, lakes, waterfronts and docks) needs a minimum age of 16. Golf caddying is generally allowed from 14. On Tethrd, lifeguard posts open from 16, because the form has no option for 15.
9. Hours and breaks for members under 18
Schedule work only within the hours the law allows, and state the hours in the post.
14 and 15 year olds may work only outside school hours. They may work no more than 3 hours on a school day, 18 hours in a school week, 8 hours on a day without school, and 40 hours in a week without school. In New York they may work no more than 6 days a week. They may work only between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. In summer the evening limit moves to 9 p.m.: federally from June 1 to Labor Day, in New Jersey from the last day of school to Labor Day, and in New York from June 21 to Labor Day. Where the dates differ, follow the stricter one.
16 and 17 year olds in New Jersey may work no more than 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week or 6 days in a row, and only between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Later hours are allowed only in limited cases, such as nights before a day without school. From the last day of school to Labor Day they may work up to 10 hours a day and 50 hours a week.
16 and 17 year olds in New York who attend day school may, while school is in session, work no more than 4 hours on a day before a school day, 8 hours on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or holiday, 28 hours a week, or 6 days a week. They may not start before 6 a.m. They may not work after 10 p.m. on a night before a school day. Work until midnight on such a night needs the parent's written consent and the school's certificate of satisfactory academic standing. On a night before a day without school, work after 10 p.m. needs the parent's written consent, and never past midnight. When school is out, they may work no more than 8 hours a day, 48 hours a week or 6 days a week, and not between midnight and 6 a.m.
In New Jersey, a worker under 18 must get a meal break of at least 30 minutes before working more than 6 hours in a row.
10. Working papers and records
Before a member under 18 starts paid work, you must hold the working papers the state requires.
In New Jersey, the employer registers at MyWorkingPapers.nj.gov and gives its employer code to the new hire. The minor applies with a parent's authorization. The minor may start only once the state confirms that they are authorized to work, unless the state has not responded within one week of the employer's registration. A new application is needed if the minor changes employer, job title or duties.
In New York, the minor gets an employment certificate (working papers) from the school district or other issuing officer, and you keep it on file while they work for you. Golf caddying is one of the few jobs that needs no certificate.
Keep the time and pay records the law requires, and display the required posters.
11. Posts open to members under 18
When a post is open to members under 18, state the hours, and state the setting: where the work happens and who supervises.
If a post mentions driving, boats, engines, power tools or similar work, it is held until a community admin reviews it, and members under 18 cannot apply until then. Any edit starts a new review. This review is a check for certain words by people who are not lawyers. It is not a legal review, a safety inspection or approval of the job. Clearing a post does not make it lawful or safe, and it does not change your duties under these terms.
A parent must approve every application from a member under 18 before you can see it. Once they approve, the conversation happens in a Tethrd thread where the parent gets a copy of every message. Keep your contact with a member under 18 in that thread until the parent agrees to another channel. Do not drive a member under 18 anywhere unless their parent has arranged it in writing.
Supervise members under 18 during work and shadowing in the way the setting and the law require. Follow any youth protection rules that apply to you through your community, your club or your sport.
12. Fair and lawful hiring
Do not state or apply a preference or limit based on race, color, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, citizenship or immigration status, age, disability, genetic information, marital or familial status, military status, or any other characteristic protected where the work happens. Exceptions apply only where the law allows them.
Do not use words that signal an age preference against older applicants, such as "young", "recent graduate" or "college students only". The exception is a program that genuinely requires enrollment. Minimum ages set by child labor law are legal requirements, not age preferences, and the post's minimum age field is for that purpose only.
Do not say you will not consider people who are unemployed. Do not ask about criminal history, salary history or other restricted topics earlier, or in a different way, than the law allows where the work happens.
If you use a background check or another consumer report, give the notices and get the consent that the law requires. Tethrd does not run background checks.
13. No fees from applicants
Do not ask an applicant to pay anything to apply, be referred, train or start. That includes deposits, kits, equipment, uniforms they must buy from you, and fees for placement. Do not ask for bank details, government ID numbers or payment through Tethrd messages. Collect what you need for hiring only once there is an offer, and through your normal hiring process.
14. Applicant information
Use what applicants share with you only to consider them for the opportunity you posted. Do not add them to marketing lists, share their details with anyone outside the hiring process, or keep them longer than you need. Information about members under 18 calls for extra care.
15. Safety concerns and reporting
If you believe a child has been abused or neglected, report it to the authorities right away. In New Jersey, everyone has a legal duty to report to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. In New York, anyone may report to the Statewide Central Register, and some professionals must. Call 911 in an emergency. You may also report the concern to Tethrd at support@tethrd.us or through the report button. Telling Tethrd does not replace any report the law requires you to make.
Tell Tethrd if a post you made turns out to break these terms, or if an injury or incident involves a member you connected with through Tethrd.
16. What Tethrd may do
We may hold, edit for safety, close or remove a post. We may stop applications, tell the community admins, suspend your ability to post, or keep records and share them with authorities where the law requires or allows. We may do this whether or not a review was triggered. We are not obliged to review posts, and we do not promise that any review will catch a problem.
17. Responsibility and indemnity
You are responsible for your posts, for your conduct, and, when you post for an employer, for the opportunity itself: how you or the employer recruit, hire, pay, schedule, supervise and treat anyone who responds.
You will defend and indemnify NovaHawk Labs LLC, Series Tethrd and its members, managers, employees and agents against claims brought by others, and against fines and penalties, together with reasonable attorneys' fees and costs, to the extent they arise from (a) the content of your post, (b) your breach of these terms, or (c) the opportunity, including any employment, internship, shadowing or referral that results from it. When you post for an employer with its authority, the employer gives this promise for (c). You personally give it for (a), (b) and your own conduct.
This promise does not cover any claim, fine or penalty to the extent it was caused by Tethrd's own negligence, willful misconduct or breach of the Member Terms or these terms.
Nothing in these terms waives, releases or limits any claim that a member under 18, a parent or guardian, or any applicant has against you, the employer or Tethrd. These terms allocate responsibility only between you and Tethrd.
We will tell you promptly about a claim covered by this section. We will let you control the defense with counsel reasonably acceptable to us, and we will cooperate at your expense. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault for Tethrd or requires us to act, without our written consent.
18. Changes and ending
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will ask you to accept the new version before your next post, and it will not change the rules for a post retroactively. You can stop posting at any time. Sections 13, 14, 15 and 17 continue to apply to opportunities you posted before then.
Questions about these terms: support@tethrd.us, or write to NovaHawk Labs LLC, Series Tethrd, 1122 Colorado St, Unit 1410, Austin, TX 78701.
